Assignment 1: Using your smart phone
'Artist: Natalie DeLand and Abby Spindler
Teacher: Mrs. Gollan
Course: Digital Photography
Subject matter: Abby and the pond panoramic, Panoramic cat tails, my dog, spider under a table, myself, Abby's dogs' feet.
Project Goal: Use smartphone tips and tricks for photography
Personal Review/evaluation and critique: What I liked about this project was that I had to be creative in the way I took photos, and had to think of a variety of ways to achieve the requirements. I learned to use my phone camera in different ways that I hadn't before. I learned to keep the phone level when taking a panoramic, or it will be out of proportion. When in a moving car taking a panoramic, it is very difficult to take a picture that will turn out without distortion. If I redid the panoramic photo I would drive the car even slower so that the form was not as choppy. I need to improve the focus in the spider picture. If I were to do this project again I would use depth of field more to balance and line up the photos to be centered. I would also try and use different shapes of the outline for the zoom lens photo.

Assignment 2: ISO
Artist: Natalie DeLand
Teacher: Mrs. Gollan Course: Digital Photography Subject: Milford flags and Abby Project goal: Compare ISO levels when you take a photo of something with low ISO vs high ISO outside and inside. Personal evaluation: I really like the color change when the ISO level is different. I used the form of Depth of Field well in the Milford flags picture. It is proportional when looking at the the shape of the photo. In the photos of Abby, you can tell the difference of ISO in the change of color between both of them. I really liked this project because I learned that ISO can affect the color variety in your photos. With a high ISO, there is an emphasis on the red flags because of the light blue tint. I learned how to use ISO and how it works together with aperture and shutter speed. |
Assignment 3: Name Project
Natalie
Artist: Natalie DeLand
Teacher: Mrs. Gollan
Course: Digital Photography
Subject: Objects that spell my name that includes under the bleachers, cone, shadow, net, field goal, flag pole, fence.
Project goal: Look for objects that create the shape of letters in your name.
Personal Evaluation: I explored the campus of Milford High School and looked for unique ways to display my name without taking a picture of a sign with letters. I was not looking for a specific color in this project, but I looked for shapes. I concentrated on focusing the subject in the picture in order to combine them together to spell my name. In these pictures, I would consider all of them symbols because they represent letters that I may not have noticed if I wasn’t looking for them. The subjects have lines that form letters. Colors of variety are orange, silver/gray and white. The orange creates an emphasis compared to the silver, gray and white. If I were to redo this project I would take more time to look for more things that spell out my name, just to see how creative I could get. All the photos work together with unity to make the project complete.

Teacher: Mrs.Gollan Course: Digital Photography Subject: Senior students celebrating their success Project goal: Find school spirit throughout the week and capture it. Personal Evaluation: I liked this project because I got to capture students having fun throughout spirit week. In this photo, the color of red stands out with an empthasis. It has value because the moment was a special part of high school. The unity in this photo creates harmony. The space in this photo is good with the sophomore class in the background. |
Artist: Natalie DeLand
Teacher: Mrs.Gollan Course: Digital Photography Subject: The subject matter of this photo is seniors dressed in white to represent their class. Project Goal: Find school spirit throughout the week and capture it. Personal Evaluation: I used the form of Rule of Thirds by centering the seniors and having trees in the top third of the photo. The yellow sunlight makes the color of their white shirts have an emphasis in the photo. This photo has balance and unity. |

Personal Evaluation: in the pictures of cement, the green color of the leaves have an emphasis because they stand out. It has value because it is the main subject in the center. If I did this project again I would go somewhere other than Milford High school to do it. The texture of the cement is easily seen in the photo. In this piece, the space above and below the subject is unoccupied. If I retook this picture I would center and straighten the crack in the cement.
|
Personal Evaluation: I like how the tire and the parking line is proportional and parallel. The red color in the tire grabs my attention because it is centered in the middle. The texture of the tire is visible. The space in this photo is effective because the tire is the main focus and everything around it is still important to the photo. If I were to retake this photo I would keep everything the same because I like how it turned out.
|
Personal Evaluation: I looked for worth in regular everyday things that we see and don’t think anything of them. I really liked this project because I found a variety of things outside on the ground to photograph that I would not have thought to take pictures of. This photo shows the multiple different shapes of the rocks and their textures. Visually, there is balance in this photo because the whole piece is very similar. There is no extra space in this photo, just the rocks as subjects and more rocks in the background.

Assignment 7: Toy Story "The Reverse Park"
Part 1: The dinosaurs of Jurassic World 2050 enter the world of Homosapiens. They ride in on their Jeep and Ford Raptor. The Homosapiens wait inside their boundary to see the visitors. The Homosapiens plan a getaway because the dinosaurs locked them in there to begin with. They have grown up there for 18 years and they want to live their adulthood elsewhere, outside the border that they’ve known their whole life.
Part 2: The Homosapiens climbed the fence so that the dinosaurs would not see them. This is all part of the plan for the attack. The dinosaurs crept their way into the cage. Suddenly, the dinosaurs heard a clink- the sound of the fence! Slowly, they looked up. Before they knew it they were blinded by a light. The homosapiens have laser eyes! The dinos crashed their jeeps as the girls broke out of the cage to freedom.
Part 3: The dinosaurs eyes burned so badly that they laid on the ground and couldn’t move. They also got hurt from the Jeep and Ford Raptor crashing. The homosapien girls ran out of the gate and closed it behind them. They watched the dinos from the outside. The dinos will soon be familiar with their new home. The girls gazed and somewhat felt sorry for what their laser eyes did to the dinos, but deep down knew they had to do it to escape. Reminding themselves that the dinos locked them in there at the start of their life, they didn’t feel so bad anymore.

In the up close pictures, you can see the texture of the tires clearly. If I were to redo this project I would keep everything the same because I really liked how it turned out.

I used the form Rule of Thirds to have the tablecloth, my dog and the decorations on the table. The space in this photo is effective and includes everything needed. Subject: Taylor Swift lyrics books, softball, polaroid. Pond with flowers. Fake flowers.
Project goal: Take 3 pictures of what represents you, how others see you and how you see yourself.
What represents me:
Personal Evaluation: The first photo represents me because it shows my love for music, sports, photography. The variety of things show what my interests are. I used space wisely in this photo, and also the rule of thirds. The bright yellow color of the softball catches my eye, and also because it is in the center. All of the things in this photo have strong value and meaning to me. The lyric books create rhythm in the photo.
Personal Evaluation: The 2nd photo of the flowers express me as a person and creates unity. I am bright and try to grow individually as a person even if there are “weeds” of toxic people around me trying to stop that. In In the 2nd photo, the flowers shape and texture is clearly visible on the water. The space in the photo is important to show the emphasis of the flowers. |
Personal Evaluation: In the 3rd photo, the glowing orange color in the rose has a strong emphasis to show how it is special. I see myself as aspiring to be different and better. The repetition of the plain flowers displays how the brighter one shines and has value. The close up picture of the flowers shows the texture of the petals and the fake rain drops.

Assignment 10: Filling in the frame
Digital Photography
Artist: Natalie DeLand Teacher: Mrs. Gollan Subject: Christmas decorations, exit sign, fire alarm Project Goal: Use manual settings and filters Personal Evaluation: This project was challenging because the manual settings does not focus like the automatic settings. I like the red color tint in the photos when I used the filters in the studio. The photo with the bow shows the shape of it very clearly with the dark background. If I were to redo this project I would make the lines proportional and parallel in the photos of the exit sign and the fire alarm. A common color pattern theme is red. If I were to redo this project I would take pictures of more things and use more filters. |
Assignment 11: Leading Lines
Artist: Natalie DeLand

Personal Evaluation: In these photos, lines are very proportional and follows a path in the distance. The photos are very balanced and almost symmetrical. The maroon colors stand out in every photo. Space is shown in these photos because subjects in the pictures get smaller and smaller. If I were to redo this project, I would find more places to take pictures of leading lines.
